I met Thomas Pereira in Oaxaca City, Oaxaca, Mexico in 2006. I'd been hitchhiking in Mexico for close to two months at that point. We met in the lobby of a hostel, and soon realized that we were both from Chicago and quickly exchanged email addresses. I got back to Chicago and found out Thomas lived down the street from me. The world is smaller than you think.
